What Is It?

The Club is celebrating its 130th anniversary in 2007. It was founded in 1877 and is one of the oldest Clubs in The City. Primarily, an association of men and women working in the city of London, associated with, or otherwise interested in, the civic life of The City. Its purpose is to promote the spirit of Citizenship among its members and help maintain the high traditions and prestige of the City.

What It Does

The Club holds certain regular functions each year

* The Banquet in January attended by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, the Sheriffs and their Ladies is held at The Mansion House
* The Annual General Meeting and Dinner in March
* Church Carol Service and Luncheon in Guildhall Old Library
* Founders' Day Dinner with a City Speaker at the end of October

Additionally there are various visits at about monthly intervals. Recent examples are:

     Clarence House
     Dinner at Haberdashers Hall
     A visit to Bath by steam train.
     Weekend visits to Padstow, Jersey and Bosham, with a special programme to      commemorate the 200th celebrations of the Battle of Trafalgar including visits
     to the Historic Dockyard at Portsmouth, Goodwood House and Uppark.

Annually the President selects a suitable place for the Club holiday and recent ones have included Slovenia, Russia and Italy.

Donations and Charitable Giving

The Club have recently made donations of £100 to The City of London Freemen's School where the United Wards' Prize is given to two students from the 6th form. £200 to the City of London Poppy Appeal, £200 to the Dyslexia Computer Training School. £200 To Combat Stress. £250 to Royal Star and Garter Home at Richmond. £250 to St Bartholomew's Cancer Fund. £250 for Silk Street Bursary Guildhall School of Music. £250 to the RNLI Lifeboat Station at Millennium Tower Pier and £1,250 to The Lord Mayor's Charity Appeal

Who Belongs?

Successive Lord Mayors have been Patrons of the Club. Members include Aldermen, Common Councilmen, Liverymen, Freemen of the City, members of Ward Clubs and many who just wish to know a bit more about the City and play some part in its life.
